During the 2023 Live Wires Digital Technology Forum, we invite you to take part in one of our ‘Stay and Play’ sessions at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Children’s Technology Centre on the fourth floor of the Education Building at the Kelvin Grove campus. We are excited to have you join us at the centre—a space purposefully designed to promote research and outreach events related to digital technologies for children from birth to age eight, as well as their families and educators.

Created in collaboration with the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child, the centre is one of three dedicated physical spaces in the country where children, researchers, parents and carers, and educators can collaborate, play, experiment and learn. The ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child is the world’s first research centre dedicated to creating positive digital experiences in the early childhood years, with a focus on young children being healthy, educated and connected in a digital world. The ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child brings together national and international experts and partners to investigate children’s digital experiences, including a world-first study of 3,000 Australian families and children from birth to eight years of age.
The regular ‘Stay and Play’ sessions at the QUT Children’s Technology Centre are open for children and their families to attend, providing an opportunity for hands-on experiences that encourage learning, play and connection with digital technology. Young children can explore the fundamentals of computational thinking and learn important problem-solving skills by engaging with digital resources such as green screens, VR headsets, and robots. Collaboration is fostered by engaging in shared digital experiences, where children can work together to solve problems and learn from one another.
The centre also provides an ideal space for educators to explore new ways of integrating technology into teaching practice. As educators, we understand that digital technology is an integral part of children’s lives and need to ensure that children are not just passive consumers of technology, but active creators and problem solvers. By using digital technologies in a playful, interactive and safe way, we can help children develop essential skills such as critical thinking, collaboration and creativity—inspiring them to continue to explore and learn.
We can’t wait to see you at the ‘Stay and Play’ sessions during the Live Wires forum, where you can explore the potential of digital technologies in a fun and engaging way. These sessions are also the perfect opportunity for you to network and share practices, ideas and strategies for incorporating technology into early learning settings. Don’t miss this opportunity!
